Step-by-step

  1. Decide whether you need more than EVM. If you only use Ethereum L2s, MetaMask already does that job. If you want one seed for BTC/SOL/TRX/XRP as well, compare addresses after import.
  2. Import in GaurdWallet and match the 0x. Follow the MetaMask import guide. Account 0 must match. Snaps, hardware pairing, and MetaMask’s dApp history do not copy.
  3. Use Exchange or MetaMask swaps on purpose. GaurdWallet Exchange is LI.FI (EVM) and Jupiter (Solana), proxied. MetaMask’s swap UI is a different aggregator. Do not mix pending bridges.

What MetaMask keeps that we do not copy

Address book labels, custom networks you added only in MetaMask, unlimited token allowances you already signed, and Snaps stay in MetaMask. GaurdWallet Settings can add custom EVM RPCs separately — a malicious RPC can still lie about balances, same as anywhere. Hardware wallets paired only to MetaMask are not auto-attached here.

GaurdWallet app code is unaudited. MetaMask has a different security process and a huge phishing surface. Neither is “safe” in the marketing sense. Self-custody is the seed.

FAQ

Is GaurdWallet a MetaMask fork? No. It is an independent wallet that implements the same open BIP-39/BIP-44 standards so seeds are portable. The brand spelling GaurdWallet is intentional.

Can I use both at once? Yes. Both will sign for the same EVM keys. Treat that as two hot copies. Prefer one daily driver plus paper backup.

Does GaurdWallet simulate transactions like some MetaMask Snaps? No. Do not confuse us with the former Wallet Guard Snap. Approval windows show origin, decoded tx, and full message in the extension build.

Where do I swap SOL? In GaurdWallet Exchange via Jupiter, same-chain only. MetaMask does not replace that path.
